Qantas jet makes emergency landing

A troubled Qantas airliner has landed in Singapore with smoke coming out of its underside and was quickly surrounded by six fire engines, an reporter from the AFP news agency said.
Fire engines immediately swarmed the aircraft as soon is it landed on the tarmac on Changi Airport on Thursday.

"I can see smoke coming out of it," the reporter said.
Australian government said no passenger or crew was injured during the ordeal.
Al Jazeera's Step Vaessen, reporting from Jakarta, the Indonesian capital, said that Qantas, Australia's flagship carrier, has confirmed that the plane had safely landed in Singapore.
"A total of 433 passengers have safely landed after more than two hours of very scary moments in the air," she said.
"A huge piece of debris came down from the sky after witnesses reported a mid-air explosion over the Indonesian island of Batam."
The plane, an A380 Airbus, was flying from London to Sydney via Singapore. The Airbus A380 is the largest commercial aircraft. It was unveiled few years ago.
